"Managing Information Security with ISO 27001" Training Course
Th
e next “Managing Information Security with the ISO 27001 Information Security Standard” is scheduled to take place in the Centre for Software Engineering on April the 15th and 16th. Brian Honan Interviewed for The Phoenix Magazine
Our senior consultant, Brian Honan, was interviewed for the March 20th issue of The Phoenix Magazine.  Brian gave recommendations on how companies can protect their information assets by identifying what data they have so they can develop appropriate policies and technology solutions to protect that information.

SiliconRepublic.com Quotes Brian Honan on Jobs.ie Breach
The online recruitment website, Jobs.ie, recently suffered a security breach where criminals accessed the company's systems and downloaded a number of CVs belonging to users of the site.  The online magazine, SiliconRepublic.com, quotes our senior consultant Brian Honan who commended Jobs.ie for the way they handled the incident.  SiliconRepublic.com also referred to the post about the breach on our Security Watch blog.

ENISA Publishes Report on Information Security Certification Schemes.
ENISA (the European Network and Information Security Agency) has published a report from the working group established last year to examine the area of certification schemes within the information security industry.  The group looked at the merits of different schemes and focused at personal accreditation, product certification and organisational certification schemes.  Brian Honan was part of this study group and the report refers to work Brian posted on our Security Watch Blog listing all the available certification schemes.  The full report is available from ENISA's website.

Managing the Insider Threat
The next Irish Information Security Forum meeting is scheduled for Wednesday April the 9th at 18:30.  The topic for this event is “Preventing and Detecting Employees and Contractors from Stealing Corporate Data” and will be presented by Dr. Eric Cole from the SANS Institute.

SANS Dublin 2008 Community Night.
As part of SANS Dublin 2008 the SANS community night will be run on Thursday the 10th of April.  This is a great opportunity to meet Irish and international information security professionals in a relaxed and friendly environment. The event will take place at the Red Cow Moran Hotel, Red Cow Complex, Naas Road and will kick off with 5.45pm with refreshments served throughout.

Internet Crime At All Time High
A recent report published by the FBI's Internet Crime Complaints Centre shows that Internet crime has risen again in 2007 to a new all time high.  The most common form of Internet crime is auction fraud with other areas such as credit card fraud, computer intrusions and spam also showing an increase.  The full report is available from the Internet Crime Complaints Centre.

5% of Internet Traffic Used for Attacks
Arbor Networks have released findings from their research where they examined the traffic of over 68 ISPs worldwide.  The research shows that up to 5% of Internet traffic is being used for Distributed Denial of Service attacks.  Click here for more details.
